His & Hers Bathroom Pleasures

As today's bathrooms have become more sanctuary-like and less utilitarian, it's increasingly apparent that men and women have distinctly different preferences.

THE SHOWERHEAD

"Men are eating up the giant, overhead rainheads, complemented by body jets that massage their upper and lower backs," says Jennifer Perry at Galleria Bath & Kitchen Show Place in Lutz. Women, she says, prefer handheld showerheads that not only offer greater flexibility in where they can direct the water spray but also facilitate cleaning.

THE TUB

In the past, women who enjoyed a good soak would have to follow up their baths with a shower in order to wash their hair. Many of today's tubs include a handheld showerhead for that purpose.

The Shower Stall

Contemporary shower designs have separate his and her sides. Perry reports a growing trend in stalls that include one area designed specifically for men, with a rainhead showerhead and body jets, and a separate side designed for women, with handheld showerhead, body sprays and a built-in bench that can be used for shaving.

THE TV MIRROR

Claudia Allen of Cobblestone Court Decorative Plumbing and Hardware says men have led the charge in bringing sophisticated technology into the bathroom. For example, a leading mirror manufacturer has developed a "looking glass" that resembles a traditional mirror but, with a flick of a switch, becomes a state-of-the-art television.
