70s Home Gets Update

Greaves Construction

This circa-1972 custom home hadn’t been significantly changed in 38 years, boasting pink and green shag carpet, paisley foil wallpaper, a round bed and beaded curtains. Since no Austin Powers movie was slated to be filmed at the home, the owner wanted to update it while keeping some of the more timeless touches.

Greaves Construction created a Craftsman-style exterior, keeping the flagstone that adorned the entrance, pool, patio and chimney. More flagstone was added to the porch and a synthetic flagstone added to the kitchen.

The original cultured marble tub was also restored and saved. Because the homeowner has a physically challenged daughter, the pool was enlarged and a roll-in shower was installed.

The kitchen island was designed with two countertop levels. In fact, the kitchen is the highlight of the home, with custom maple cabinets, state-of-the-art appliances and granite countertops. Greaves’s crew even used leftover lumber to build the homeowner’s grandsons a treehouse.
