At Home With
After remodeling an older Winter Park home, Lucy Boudet, a former director of media relations for Valencia Community College, and her husband, Scott Siegel, owner of a sports marketing firm, decided they needed a bigger house for raising their twins, Jake and Hannah. They chose Hal George of Parkland Homes to build their custom showplace in Winter Park's Windsong neighborhood. The family moved there in February 2004.
What special elements did you want your builder to include in your home?
Lucy: We love old houses, so we wanted something brand-new that had the look and feel of an old house. At the same time, we wanted modern touches that we missed in the older home that we remodeled: big closets, a bathroom for every bedroom and a big upstairs bonus room that could be a play room for the children.
Scott: I come from up north originally, and we wanted a traditional two-story home that you don't typically see down here. And I specifically wanted the master bedroom on the second floor.
What's your favorite room?
Lucy: Definitely my bathroom. It has a great big soaking tub with black and white Carerra marble everywhere. It's like walking into a 1920s bathroom. It's my place for getting away from everything. I'm also totally in love with the fact that we have two foyer entrances, one out front for visitors, and one off the garage for us. It makes it a lovely way to come home.
Scott: I like the downstairs layout of family room/kitchen/breakfast room that are all really one space. There's no obstruction of view, and no matter where you are you can see the TV, hear the music or keep an eye on the kids.
What do you like most about living here?
Lucy: I never dreamed that in a community this new there would be so many children and young families. It feels like a neighborhood that will just grow old gracefully like the rest of Winter Park.
Scott: There are sidewalks for the kids to ride bikes, and we can go down to Lake Mizell and take out the Windsong pontoon boat or use the community ski boat. It's as active, or as laid-back, as we want it to be.
