At Home With

Randy and Cynthia Lubinsky

Married for 20 years, Randy and Cynthia Lubinsky have spent most of that time living in the Springs community in Longwood. When it came time to build a new home, neither Randy, the CEO of PainCare Holdings, an Orlando-based health care services firm, nor Cynthia, who manages a boutique in Winter Park, wanted to leave the neighborhood they had grown to love. Instead, they tore down their old home and enlisted the help of Greg Hyatt of Hyatt Designs and custom builder Dave Konkol to build something new on the site. They have since bought an adjoining lot, where they're planning to build a formal garden and conservatory.

What marching orders did you give your architect and builder?

Randy: We specifically didn't want a formal living room; we wanted an open floorplan that would be good for guests. Cynthia is from Rhode Island, so we wanted the house to have something of a northern look, with stacked stone used in the front of the house and along the patio and pool area.

Cynthia: I wanted a home that when you walked in, it immediately looked warm and inviting. I was afraid the open approach might hinder this, but it worked out just fine, thanks in large part to the lighting and décor, all put together by our interior designer, Grant Gribble.

What's your favorite room in the house?

Randy: Besides the main living area, I like the library. I picked out the color scheme-it has a red velvet couch and an Indian rug-with wood everywhere and cork wallpaper.

Cynthia: Definitely the bedroom, because I can look out on a beautiful back yard and not actually see any of the neighbors. Plus, the lighting is just magnificent, particularly at sunset.

What do you like most about living where you live?

Randy: We looked at lots of different subdivisions, but decided to stay here in the Springs mostly because the land is no nicely wooded and the springs themselves are so beautiful.

Cynthia: It's all about location. We can leave our peaceful little setting and within minutes we can shop, go to restaurants, do whatever we want.
