YOUR PLACE IN THE SUN

By Theresa Swanson

Over the years, I have found that when people say they're moving to Orlando, they really mean Central Florida. Often, they don’t know the difference between Winter Park, Winter Garden or Winter Haven. The communities of Oviedo, Oakland and Ocoee are not even on their radar; to them, it’s all Orlando.

Once they spend some time here, they realize that “Orlando” is actually a vibrant region made up of counties and cities with their own character (and, in many cases, more than a handful of characters).

In this issue we explore county by county the charm and ambiance that draws newcomers to look beyond the city limits of Orlando.

Whether you prefer the old-world charm of Winter Park, the old-Florida ambiance of Osceola County or anything else in between, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.

And who can forget the beaches? Nearby New Smyrna and Daytona have for decades been playgrounds for Central Floridians — and now, increasingly, they're relocation destinations.

Central Florida is a patchwork of communities representing an eclectic and diverse population. So spend some time with us and see what “Orlando” is really all about.

Better yet, send a copy of this issue to your friends and relatives out of state who are still shoveling snow in April. Invite them to come down and have a look in person.

And be sure to suggest that they schedule their visits to coincide with the Greater Orlando Builders Association's annual Parade of Homes, slated for May 5-13. With nearly 100 homes on display in every price range, they're sure to find their place in the sun.
