THE LUCERNE II IS ALMOST LIKE TWO HOMES IN ONE PLAN

For more than 60 years, the Greater Orlando Builders Association’s (GOBA) Parade of Homes has highlighted the best of the best in new and remodeled homes. The 2016 parade, which was held in early April, was no different.

 As evidence, just check out this year’s Showcase Home, the Lucerne II by CalAtlantic Homes in Winter Garden’s Waterside community in the Horizon West area.

First of all, at 5,500 square feet, this is a big, impressive two-story home. With four (or five) bedrooms, five bathrooms and a three-car garage, it’s an ideal place for families that need plenty of room to stretch out.

In fact, the Lucerne II is designed almost like two homes in one. Theoretically (and most likely in practice), the grownups can live on one side and the kids on another — with meetups scheduled for the kitchen, the casual dining room, the formal dining room and the expansive great room.

To the left, jutting out, is a pair of bedrooms and bathrooms. To the right, also jutting out, is a three-car garage. The recessed entry that divides the two boasts a dramatic foyer with a voluminous entry.

Behind the bedrooms, on the left, is the formal dining room, the kitchen and an adjacent casual dining room. Behind the garage, on the right, is a laundry room, a bedroom and a lavish master suite with an adjacent sitting room.

The center consists primarily of the great room with a lanai at the rear, connected to the master suite’s sitting room. That’s where family can gather before retreating to their respective sides of the home when they’re ready for some quiet time. The great room is also a great space for parties.

Upstairs is a game room or an optional bedroom that overlooks the downstairs. And the Lucerne II is filled with windows, flooding the interior with natural light.

Elevations come in three styles: Spanish, Italianate and European Cottage. They’re all gorgeous, but we like the European Cottage in particular because the facade is mostly stone.
