LENNAR'S INDEPENDENCE MODEL SPANS GENERATIONS

Maybe it’s the economy. Maybe it’s demographics. For whatever reason, Americans are blending their extended families under one roof in greater numbers than ever.

Remodelers have kept busy in recent years retrofitting older homes to accommodate parents, grandparents and kids. But today, Lennar Homes has stepped up to offer extended families a new-home option dubbed NextGen — The Home Within a Home. These leading-edge designs include a private attached suite with its own entrance, living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette and laundry space. A door connects the suite to the main house.

One NextGen model Lennar is offering in locally is appropriately named the Independence. Boasting 3,385 square feet of living space, the Independence has four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms in the 2,543-square-foot main house. The suite is 842 square feet.

While the home was built with multigenerational families in mind, some buyers are seeing other opportunities for the separate space, including home offices, guest rooms and recreation areas (read man-caves).

Lennar is offering the Independence at ChampionsGate, Crestview at StoneyBrook Hills and Cortland Woods. A furnished model, with a base price of $314,990 can be toured at Calloway Bay at Wyndham Lakes.
