NEW NEFBA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IS THE RIGHT PERSON AT THE RIGHT TIME

For an organization that’s been around as long as the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA), we’ve had remarkably few executive directors. I like to think it’s because we’re good at picking strong leaders — and once they get in place, they enjoy it so much that they don’t want to leave.

So when Daniel Davis got a terrific opportunity to head the Jack-sonville Chamber of Commerce, we were careful and deliberate about selecting his successor.

And, although we had candidates from everywhere, we ended up selecting someone from our own backyard, so to speak.

Corey Deal, our new executive director, is certainly on familiar turf. From 2006 to 2009, he served as NEFBA’s director of Governmental Affairs and was coordinator for the Clay Builders Council.

During his time with us he won the admiration and respect of our members as well as the governmental officials with whom he interacted on a daily basis. In recognition of his outstanding work, he was the recipient of the NEFBA Good Government Award.

Corey, who already had a BA in business administation from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Stanford University, left NEFBA to pursue his dream of earning a law degree. He achieved that goal, graduating last year from the University of Georgia School of Law with a juris doctorate.

Afterward, he worked in the Office of General Counsel for the Georgia Department of Community Health. Then NEFBA came calling — and Corey just couldn’t say no.

He’s coming back at a time when strong leadership, sound judgment, commitment to growth and the ability to motivate and unite all of our constituencies are critical to the success of the organization and the industry.

Corey is the right person for the job. He’s proved his mettle before, and we’re expecting great things from him in the years to come. So, Corey, on behalf of the entire membership, I’d like to welcome you back home to Jacksonville — and back home to NEFBA.
