First Coast Remodelers Awards

Industry Pros Gather to Salute Outstanding Achievement in 2011.

First Coast Remodelers

Are Creative, Resourceful

The First Coast Remodelers Awards are always exciting to me. It’s especially impressive to see the wide array of projects entered, from whole-house renovations to single-room upgrades, and to learn what’s new in the areas of technology, surfaces and finishes and construction materials.

Every year, I learn something new. But aside from that, it’s fun to see how creative and resourceful members of the Remodelers Council of the Northeast Florida Builders Association can be. They are presented with every sort of challenge you can imagine aesthetically.

But many of the challenges that must be overcome aren’t obvious to an observer, such as plumbing issues, electrical problems, load-bearing walls that need to be moved and even botched and shoddy construction that has to be redone or repaired.

Still, these professionals and the teams of suppliers who work with them can take the most dilapidated historic structure and make it like new again. They can take the most inefficient 1960s tract home and make it as green as green can be. They can add a second or third story and make it look as though it’s always been there. They can take a mundane back yard and transform it into a tropical retreat.

The First Coast Remodelers Awards have taken on added significance in recent years as the economy has forced many homeowners to reconsider their options. Rather than moving, more are opting to stay in neighborhoods they love and to invest in making their existing home the home of their dreams.

In this issue of Florida Homebuyer Jacksonville, we spotlight First Coast Remodelers Award-winners. On the following pages, you’ll find photographs and descriptions of each winning project. Have a look, and maybe you’ll be inspired to undertake a project of your own.

As far as selecting a contractor to make it all happen, you can’t go wrong with a member of the Remodelers Council. They take pride in what they do and they do it well — as you’re about to see.

COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP IS YOUR ASSURACE OF PROFESSIONALISM

re-odeling Jacksonville homes for many years. It’s rewarding work and our region is blessed to have a number of top-notch professionals who do excellent work and boast legions of satisfied customers.

That’s great, because remodeling is moving to the forefront. In fact, some experts say that by 2015 remodeling is expected to outpace new construction for the first time nationwide.

One of the main reasons the Remodelers Council exists is to enhance professionalism within our industry and to boost education among consumers. Good remodelers are proud of their work, and they realize that when the industry overall is healthy, their businesses will benefit.

So, although we’re competitive with one another, we also work cooperatively for the good of our profession.

Nothing makes us unhappier than to read about an unscrupulous contractor who has mistreated a customer.

Members of the Remodelers Council are obviously companies that care about their reputations and take pride in what they do. So, when you’re ready to consider a project of your own, check out the membership directory in this publication or visit us at jaxremodelers.com.

Finally, congratulations to all our winners. I hope you enjoy taking a grand tour of these fantastic projects.

THE 2011 FIRST COAST

REMODELERS AWARDS

From Whole-House Rehabs to Single-Room

Renovations, Here are the Best of the Best.

Every year, Jacksonville’s remodelers honor the best of the best with the prestigious First Coast Remodelers Awards. The awards, sponsored by the Remodelers Council of the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA), salute outstanding work on projects ranging from whole-house rehabs to single-room renovations.

This year, the awards ceremony was held at Deerwood Country Club on Jacksonville’s Southside. More than 80 industry professionals attended.

For more information about the organization or about remodeling in general, check the council’s website at jaxremodelers.com. There you’ll find news flashes on the latest topics, a consumer question-and-answer forum and a membership directory.

If you are a remodeler and would like to join, contact Scott Merritt at NEFBA by calling (904) 725-4355.
