Combining Function and Beauty
The owners of this Jacksonville home wanted to reconfigure their outdated kitchen into an open, elegant, functional space. So, Custom Homes by Bryan Lendry removed the partition walls and installed a dessert bar and a coffee/ wine bar along with a large walk-in pantry. Viking and SubZero appliances, marble and butcher-block countertops, solid hickory flooring, pecky cypress beams and new plumbing and light fixtures completed the transformation. Inspiration for the project came from antique, hand-carved door panels the owners bought at an auction. A custom, hand hammered copper hood provides a strong focal point and anchors the room. Double stacked cabinets hide the refrigerators and the opening to the pantry. . The dual-level marble and butcher-block island sparks visual interest and hides electrical outlets. A wrought-iron gate at the wine/coffee bar adds elegance and formality in the dining area while the use of dried clay tiles and warm wood tones creates charm and an Old World feeling. All products are Energy Star-rated. Key trade partners included Kristi wyndham Designs.

Cool Product: Flooring of the wine/coffee bar was created using reclaimed Chicago brick.

Perfect for an Active Family
Sport Nobles Construction transformed this outdated white-on-white kitchen, with poor lighting and an awkward configuration, into a high-end, functional space perfect for a busy young family. By removing a wall, the living room, kitchen and breakfast area came together as one welcoming gathering space while still offering separate work zones to maximize functionality. Appliances were relocated and double ovens were added for a betterdefined work triangle. An island was installed and a beverage center added for entertaining. The combination of hard surfaces, custom cabinetry and tiger-striped wood flooring create drama. Warm earth tones and natural, native materials predominate. By focusing on small details alongside overall design, the Sport Nobles team was able to offer a highly individualized kitchen that the owners are sure to enjoy for years to come.
