Sons Needed Growing Room

The owners of this two-story home needed more livable space for the family, which includes three sons. So Lawrence Murr Inc. added a storage shed on the property, built a spacious carport off the rear then converted the garage into a family room, which opened up to the kitchen. Hardwood flooring was installed wherever it was needed on the first floor. In all, about 440 square feet of living space was added and new air conditioning
units were installed. The remodeling team also spruced up the exterior by changing out the old siding for maintenance-free siding. A new covered front entry features fluted columns, pavers and trim that add a formal touch. Seven pairs of shutters also dress up the front elevation. The roof of the new carport was extended over the back patio so the children would have an outdoor play area in case of rain.

Cool Product: Maintenance-free siding.

Here’s What a New Wing Brings

This home on Amelia Island Plantation was built in 1995 as an attached home. But the owners needed more room to pursue their hobbies and to entertain. Plus, they wanted a home that would be welcoming to their children and grandchildren. To expand, they bought two-and-a-half additional lots, which allowed Plantation Housing Corp. II to add a new wing with an office, a sewing room, a master suite with baths and a striking central tower. Also new was a zero-edge pool, a spa, a stone patio, an outdoor kitchen and a cabana with living quarters above. Inside, the new great room – which had formerly been two rooms with a corner fireplace, low ceilings and dark accents – was transformed into one airy and open space with high-beamed ceilings, a central fireplace surrounded by paneling and a mantle, an entertainment center and a stunning view of the St. Johns River. But the heart of the remodeled home is the kitchen, which now boasts rich toffee-toned cabinets and a center island topped with granite.
