Remodeling Takes Center Stage

Jacksonville Homebuyer has always covered remodelers and remodeling. After all, remodeling is a crucial part of the building industry and is growing in popularity every year.
????So beginning with this issue, we’re taking our coverage a step further. In a cooperative venture with the Northeast Florida Builders Association Remodelers Council, we’ve created a new publication called Remodel Jacksonville.?
????You’ll find Remodel Jacksonville bound within this issue of Jacksonville Homebuyer. But in addition, the publication is being separately distributed to carefully selected homeowners who are most likely to embark on remodeling projects.
????Why Remodel Jacksonville? Well, Jacksonville has a huge inventory of older homes in desirable neighborhoods such as San Marco, Riverside/Avondale and Ponte Vedra, among other prestigious addresses.?
????Indeed, no other major Florida city has such an impressive and eclectic collection of vintage charmers just waiting to be restored to their Gilded Age glory. And many of those ubiquitous Mediterranean-style subdivisions built in the 1980s and 1990s are now starting to show their age, creating yet more opportunities for remodelers to ply their trade.
????In addition, more homeowners are opting to live closer to urban centers—the price of gas is certainly a factor—and are choosing to upgrade close-in older homes with all the modern bells and whistles. But remodeling—even small jobs—can be complicated and fraught with pitfalls if you don’t do your homework. That’s where the Remodelers Council and Remodel Jacksonville hope to make a difference.
????Also in this issue, we reveal our always-fun annual compilation of the region’s best furniture stores and accessory shops. And we profile Dale Crisp, president and CEO of Kendale Design/Build, one of the region’s most successful remodelers. You’ll see that Dale and his team have built their business the old-fashioned way—by doing quality work and adhering to the golden rule.
????Also, on the new-home front, the 2008 NEFBA Parade of Homes has just been completed. We’ve had reports of strong traffic as fence-sitters begin to realize that a golden buying opportunity may soon pass them by.
????We’ll be covering the winners in our next issue, but for now you can go to www.nefba.com, click on “Events and Information” and see a list of the judges’ favorites in all styles and price ranges.
????So whether you want to make an old home new again, buy a new home or refurnish the home you have, we’ve got you covered. Enjoy this issue. And more important, use it.
