Remodel Trends

Because they interact with clients and suppliers on a daily basis, Northeast Florida remodelers tend to hear first about new products and new trends. We asked some top local companies to share their latest favorites:

In the past it’s been difficult to give remodeling clients on a budget whole-house controlled lighting systems because the cost of retrofitting their existing homes is too high. A new remote-controlled wireless system called AuroRa by Lutron makes controlled lighting more affordable. It uses a radio frequency system and allows you to operate up to five areas of your home at once from as far away as your car. And a built-in dimming mechanism can save up to 40 percent on electricity costs.

A number of manufacturers, including Weiland, Lanai and Loewen, are now offering bi-fold exterior doors, which allow homeowners to open up entire walls to the outside. They are essentially moving walls of glass that can fold up and they are a nice space-saving alternative to French doors. With an increased emphasis on outdoor living, these doors can improve the flow between interior and exterior and bring the outdoors in.

A popular product that we’re seeing requested a lot by clients is the Blumotion door/drawer hinge closing action system, manufactured by Blum. These hinges adjust to a door’s size, weight and speed, allowing a cabinet or drawer to close silently every time. The company has also recently come up with a drawer system called Servo-Drive, which uses an electrical drive to open drawers by simply touching the front or lightly pulling on the handle.
